Could we please get the OOT people here discussing where apple should manufacture their products (or where they can manufacture their products) in separate thread. You guys are imposing here you know? This is a discussion about shortages due to the earthquake not manufacturing locales for apple. An earthquake could have hit the states as well...
As threads progress, sometimes the conversation evolves. You added nothing of value in your post.

I hope it will be a GSM phone. If the AppleBerry rumors are true, then that would be sweet, too.
If it's not GSM it will be a massive failure. Focusing on a relatively small under developed market (the US) would be silly when a vibrannt global market is out there. Europe, Japan, and most importantly China (proobably the biggest growing market for phones) all work on GSM.

My guess:
They offer it on the Mac App Store, and on a USB stick (for about $10 more).
I don't really see how the Mac App Store idea would work, though, since the drive needs to be (well, should be) formatted prior to installation.
I'd opt for the physical OS.

With full respect for your decisions, if you'll pardon me, I think that's a little bit crackers. :D
How do you know if your machine isn't part of a botnet? Have you eschewed only AV and simply subsist on your router f/wall and software firewall? Only run as user not admin? None of the above? Something else?
I have a bunch of Windows and Mac computers in my house. Everything is backed up onto every computer. If I should ever get a virus, I would just go to another computer. The infected computer would be reformatted later without a worry about losing anything.
I would know immediately if ever infected by a botnet.

With USB2, which transfers to iPod about the same speed as FW.
No its not. Fast, but not as fast.

I'm excited but disappointed at the same time.
the base video card is pretty meh.
The need a low-end option for those that aren't doing PS, Doom, or 3-D rendering...

I dont understand the point of this. Is storage really an issue on peoples computers? I understand the mobile app, but why not just store the files locally?

Is anybody truly surprised by this? Droid phones are on almost every single carrier and come in every price point (including free). There is essentially one iPhone that comes at a premium price. Its like figuring out that there are far more chevy's on the road than Mercedes. Not a surprise at all.
It would be nice to see the numbers broken out by phone and carrier costs. Those would be meaningful market share numbers.
Why would you use car analogy here? Obviously the better one is about Windows/Macs. And the end result is not so good for Macs - a niche OS with 4% of worldwide market share and lack of support from many major providers.

Doesn't OS X already support displays up to 2560x1600? Afaik that was the resolution of Apple's own (now discontinued) 30" display and the resolution of most, if not all, 30" displays available at the moment. 3200x2000 is nothing but the next rung on the ladder. This is just Apple future-proofing their OS a bit. If they release anything in the short term it will most likely be a big-ass iMac or a bigger Apple Display, NOT a laptop running that resolution. Just saying...
I believe your comment is on the money. Considering they have discontinued the 30" ACD for the 27" model.
Hopefully this brings in 32.5" ACD, and DisplayPort can handle the increase in resolution.

Come on - there will be an iPhone 5 in July. That's the customer expectation and if they did NOT release it then, their stock price would suffer and they would certainly lose market share to the newer phones. They are already somewhat behind newer phones that have much larger screens, faster processors, better cameras, etc - no way they wait until next year or even winter 2011. They will find component supplies and keep on track.

So no yutz need apply for next mobile processor amticipation duty all of next year, unless of course you mean the 4 core Mobile version of Merom coming next Fall '07. :)that will be me with santa rosa. :cool:And Santa Rosa will add to Merom's Power next Spring. That's what I'm waiting for as well. :)
Trouble with this forum is a whole bunch of folks have just come in after we've already spent the past 6 months discussing this stuff and most of the newbies are completely

Oh come on, we aren't really going to resort to the "there's only one way to design a mobile device" argument, are we? You're telling me the only way to design the Galaxy Tab was to make it look identical to the iPhone 3GS?
My iPhone 4 doesn't look anything like my wife's iPhone 3GS, so apparently there are at least two ways to design a mobile phone.
None of the other Android phones or tablets I've seen look like iPhones either. Only Samsung's.
The galaxy tab looks different to the phone 3gs from my experience with it.
It is lacking a chrome bezel & the sides are flattened, black matte plastic and lacks a physical "home" button.
They are similar but far from identical.

Queue the hitler response.....
And when Hitler's constituents thought he was wrong, he decided to annihilate those who didn't want to see things his way too. Destroying opposition rather than improving one's self is way's a "#WINNING" thing to do.
Wow, I gotta get some credit for that one... Charlie Sheen, Apple, and Hitler all in one sentence!
Hitler? What the heck. This is one company exercising their right to control its product. How you got to Hitler is beyond bizzare. This is just an electronic device
"Hey I can't Jailbreak my phone! Darn Apple is like Genghis Khan!"

What rock have you been hiding under? Merom!
All I want to see is a new Macbook Pro at the WWDC, couldn't care less about the Mac Pro or Leopard
Go to Intel's website. You will notice they only mention the Intel Core 2 Duo as a desktop processor not a mobile processor. Merom is not officially announced or it would be listed on their website.

AppleInsider makes a good point. The report is that the iPhone 5 will be released in the first half of fiscal year 2012 which starts in late September 2011. This will do 2 things: allow iPhone 5 to ship with iOS 5, and allow Apple to cash in on the Holiday season starting this coming September/October. This is just my own prediction.
I'm in the 3GS camp too, so I won't lie and say I'm happy about this.

I can already see Phil sitting in the audience and then Job's cell phone rings..
Jobs: um..excuse me a sec..Seems I have a phone call..
Pulls out this cool looking cell phone, flips it open and says hello?
Phil: Say Steve, can we have a chat real fast ? then starts up iChat on his iPhone..
Jobs: starts up iChat on his cell phone..
The rest is history :D
While I don't believe it will be a flip phone (more candy bar, something between an iPod and a Nano - speaking of, VZW recently announced their new Nanoish Chocolate: talk about a stupid name), everything else you speculate? Oh yeah. Dope.
Should a more integrated, Apple-branded phone hit the street, it is quite likely that I'll kick VZW to the curb. Real quick like. Penalty or not. There just seems SUCH an opportunity for someone to swoop in and redefine the cell phone market/experience.
APPL could be that someone...
