I'm certain TJ MAXX ran this by their legal team...

If they are willing to sell the product at a $100 loss, that's their choice.

But it's not a $100 loss because tjmaxx is buying them for LESS than $499 to begin with from their distributor. So maybe they only lose $65 or $75 per iPad. As most have mentioned here the goal is to get people into the stores. I'm sure tjmax only bought a few per store so there will always be the "sorry we sold out" line and the customer will just hang around and buy something.

Even if tjmax did buy them at full price and lost $100 so what? Do the math if they lost $100 per iPad and bought 300 ipads....that's $30k for a killer ad campaign. And if you've ever been to their stores you will notice they never stock more than like 5 quantity of 90% of their items. Do you really think they are going to have hundreds of ipads per store? No way....more like 10-20 at best.

I'm starting to have doubts, mainly for one reason: The show is only a few days away, and there is NO leaked material. No prototype photos from Mister Blurrycam, no packshots, no peripherals... Given Sony's track record of keeping new hardware secret, I'd say it's not looking good. If they do show it next week, then kudos to Sony for tightening their security! :)

Thanks. Put my offer in on one so hopefully it gets accepted.

I'm sitting on 48-9k PPD right now. 950 @ 4ghz and 1750mhz on the shaders of the 460. Not too shabby.

    **Edit**
Updated the Nvidia drivers to 266 and now the GTX 460s are both folding at 15K + each. That's an increase of 3-4k PPD each.

Guess I'll be overtaken in the next couple of days... On the other hand, I just noted that your output is less then a couple of day ago. So it will take another week before you overtake me! :p

First let me say while this is a new account, I am not new to Macrumors. I've been coming here for a while, it's just now that I am making an account.

Ok, some of you might be aware of Mountain Dew/Pepsi's promo, every10minutes where you can win an Xbox 360. If any of you drink this regularly, instead of simply throwing away the caps, I'm asking you to email them to mikeL30@gmail.com

I know it sounds like a lot and sorta cheap, but I'd really appreciate it and if I could give something in return, I would

The simple fact that the Financial Times is a UK company and therefore their privacy policy actually means something kind of takes the wind out of your sails somewhat.

Just read their privacy policy and it is clear that they only send you junk email if you explicitly allow it. Plus as an ex-FT subscriber I can state I haven't received any junk mail of any kind.

Then why don't they let me explicitly allow it like Apple wants them to do?

Are your additions to Intel iBook (Rumored) really necessary? They're mostly just repeating what's already been stated earlier in the article, and are misleadingly definitive for a rumor.

Read the product reviews before buying. Some people are complaining that some games are impossible to play on the iPhone screen. Additionally, some games just can't cross over into a touch screen environment because of joystick limitations.

Good work! I've just double checked your figures and they are accurate (ahem)

I suppose the original question should have been, "What have Apple got in there?"

Maybe Steve Jobs has another hobby going, a new Xserve!

For a while I mixed up exabyte and petabyte, so I thought a petabyte was 1024 exabytes which was 1024 terabytes. Now it makes sense.

They only reason the seller wouldn't clearly state is was a picture from the outset was to deceive potential buyers. 'Nuff said. Hopefully they'll get booted from eBay and paypal for wasting everyone's time.

Of course, whoever bids is a total moron, but no one deserves to profit off that.

I've seen worse though. Like an iPad auction with the selling waffling on about how great the device is in broken English, then saying it included accessories, and ending with "the iPad is here with me".

While this is a cool feature, I kind of already have a boatload of rollover minutes.

That and I don't have the unlimited messaging plan.

So essentially this doesn't help me in anyway.

If you have a boatload of rollover, that means you are probably in a higher than necessary rate plan. You can drop down to a lower rate plan, and with the savings, then add unlimited texting. Now you'll be eligible for unlimited m2am which will even give you more rollover.

Now you'll probably be paying the same, with the exception of now having unlimited texting and unlimited m2am. (I'm hypothesizing since I don't know how many minutes you really use, and what rate plan you are on now)

Yes, it's a loss leader item.
    ...
"It's obviously irritating to Apple that they're getting used this way," says PJC's Gene Munster. ...

Actually, it probably helps Apple in the big picture. Eighty people get a fantastic deal - and they know it's a special deal, so the real value of the iPad is reinforced. And a whole lot of people, who missed out on the deal, have reinforced the perception that the iPad is not a commodity, and that Apple's msrp is 'true' price. And further, those people who missed out have now 'decided' that they want an iPad, and a fair number will go and buy one at full price. Apple wins in this case. Sold 80 units to TJ's at full price, and TJ's pays to fuel iPad frenzy in their customers. Laughing to the bank.

Here is a re-write of the article for those wishing for more "clarity" :p :

While pre-orders of Apple's Second Generation iPod Shuffle, which has a capacity of one Gigabyte (1 Gigabyte = 1,000,000,000 bytes) have recently begun to ship to customers (those who buy things), Apple has announced the general availability of the music player in Apple Retail Stores and Authorized Retailers worldwide this Friday.

AppleInsider (another rumor site) has reported that while retailers (those who sell things) may get stock of the players prior to Friday, they will not be allowed to place them out for sale until Friday.

Oh, surely we can do better than that...

While pre-orders (requests for a product before the product is actually available) of Apple's (a computer company specializing in Macintosh brand computers) Second Generation iPod (a line of electronic portable music players sold by Apple) Shuffle (move things around so as to occupy different positions or to be in a different order)...

    Okay, okay, I'll stop... ;)

To get that much storage you would need 1,000,000,000,000 Mac Mini Servers which costed at full retail is 70x the US national debt.

Apple's 500,000 sq ft data centre usuing Doctor Q's 10 fot of usuable vertical space could hold 104,088,861 not accounting for heat dissapation cabling storage racks etc. Therefore you would need 9,607 data centres of the size of apple's current (which was rumored to cost $1billion). However that is a storage facility literally filled with no walking space between the racks or anything like that so a sensible suggestion would be to double that.

The total size of this project would be 9,607,000,000 sq ft or 344 sq miles. Turks and Caicos Islands (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turks_and_Caicos_Islands) happens to 366 sq miles, although to allow for expansion, shipping port/airport and power plants and other ancilallry buildings such as worker housing, supermarket and such I would suggest that Hong Kong with an area of 426 sq miles is a good place to start. Although given the high population of Hong Kong it isn't an ideal place to build such a facility, therefore the Faroe Islands with a size of 538 miles might be the first sensible place to wipe out. Alternatively you could just dump it in Texas/Alaska as they have plenty of land spare. Alaska would give you natural cooling which would be a bonus over Texas although can you image the series of Ice Road truckers, "In this haul is 100,000 Mac Minis."

All in all to go for something like large with some as inappropriate as a Mac Mini is a costly and ultimately bonkers idea.

Fingers crossed that the sums are correct.

You forgot to mentioned the nuclear powerplants that would be required to run this as well as the affects on global warning this would have ;-)
